Tommy Dunn and Peter Barass started up Grab & Deliver way back in 2001, with a small yard in Birtley and one grab truck. Tommy had a background working with utilities and grab trucks and Peter’s background was groundwork and sales. They gradually built up a thriving business buying more trucks and made it a limited company within the first 5 years.
Tommy and Peter bought a new yard in Houghton-le Spring and invested in plant equipment, crushers and screens. After working hard to build up a good reputation for reliability and competitive prices and a good customer base, Grab & Deliver was awarded 2nd place in “Fastest Growing Companies” in the North East in 2016.
By 2020 they had a fleet of grab and tipper trucks and started to make plans to make big changes, to enhance their sustainability and environmental footprint. They were the first company in Tyne & Wear to invest in a huge £2.5 million project with CDE in Ireland, who designed and built them a wash plant. It was ready for use in October 2022 and has enabled Grab & Deliver to now recycle almost 90% of all inert waste brought in.
Their fleet of grab & tipper trucks is now 20+ and are always looking for ways to expand.
